Who we are
This site is run by Incept5 Limited, London, United Kingdom (registered company number 12731369). Questions about this policy or your data: info@incept5.com.
The short version
- There are no accounts, forms or advertising on this site, and we do not sell or share data for marketing.
- Without your consent we use no cookies. We do keep standard web-server logs and a small number of page events, described below, to count visits and see which parts of the page are read.
- Google Analytics runs only if you click Accept on the cookie bar. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of the page.
What we collect, and why
| Source | What | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Web-server logs (Amazon CloudFront) | For every request: your IP address, approximate country and network, date and time, the page or file requested (including its query string), the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. Used to run and secure the site and to count visits. | 400 days, then deleted automatically |
| Page events (our own, no cookies) | When the page loads and as you use it, your browser requests a tiny image from our own server with a short description in the address: a page view (window size, pixel ratio, browser language, time zone, the referring site and any campaign tag, light or dark theme), which sections you reached, which links, tabs and buttons you clicked, how long you stayed and how far you scrolled when you leave, and your cookie choice. A random number links the events of one page load; it is not stored on your device and is not reused on another visit. These requests land in the web-server logs above. | As the logs: 400 days |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | A cookie-free script that reports page views, referrers, country, device type and page-load performance to Cloudflare, which shows us aggregate figures. | Per Cloudflare's own terms |
| Google Analytics 4 (only with your consent) | Sets Google Analytics cookies (_ga…) and sends page views and
the page events above to Google, which shows us aggregate usage reports. | Event data: 14 months |
| Your browser's local storage | Your theme choice and your cookie choice, so the page remembers them. They stay on your device; only the cookie choice is reported, as one of the page events above. | Until you clear site data |
How we count visitors. To estimate how many different people visit on a day, our own report groups page views by IP address, user-agent string and date. We use this only for counting; we do not combine it with other data or try to identify you, and the reports we keep contain totals (visits, countries, referrers, devices, sections read), not individual records.
Who processes the data
- Amazon Web Services hosts the site and stores the server logs (in our private storage, United States region).
- Cloudflare provides the cookie-free analytics.
- Google provides Google Analytics, only after you accept its cookies.
These providers may process data outside the United Kingdom under their own data-protection terms.
Our basis for using it
Server logs, page events and the cookie-free analytics are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving this site; we keep them limited to what that needs. Google Analytics and its cookies are used only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with Cookie settings; withdrawing stops Google Analytics and deletes its cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of personal data we hold about you, or object to its use. Because we do not ask who you are, we may need the date, approximate time and IP address of your visit to find the relevant log entries. Write to info@incept5.com. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If we change what the site collects, we will update this page first and change the date at the top.
